Dark forces are gathering.  Did you wonder why the government mounted its pointless attack on "middle-aged middle-class binge drinkers"?  So it can increase the duty on wine.  Add this to bad harvests in Australia and Italy, the strength of the Euro against sterling, increased glass production costs, fuel transportation costs... and you know who is going to pay.  
I'm not going to get depressed by this desperate turn of events.  I hereby invoke the Thracian god of wine, he who was nursed by the rain nymphs, the Hyades at Nysa, lord of merriment, king of the glittering eye, to protect us.   As an offering to him, today I abstain from the grape.   Which for me is a serious sacrifice.
